Dungeon Master 10-May-19 09:32 PM
The portal opens again
@Xavavor
do you go through?
Xavavor 10-May-19 09:36 PM
Yup, quickly step through
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 09:36 PM
you find yourself in a small, similarly-size room. a torch burns in the far corner, and there is a ladder leading up
Xavavor 10-May-19 09:38 PM
is the portal up behind me?
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 09:39 PM
yep
Xavavor 10-May-19 09:39 PM
And is there anything visible where the ladder ends? Person, slime, whatever?
I mage hand through the portal and make a becking motion (edited)
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 09:40 PM
it leads up to a wooden hatch
you summon your mage hand and send it through the portal
the rest of the party sees nothing
Ramza 10-May-19 09:42 PM
I come through right after
Octavious 10-May-19 09:42 PM
I think we can safely say we all pass through the portal.
Kalochex 10-May-19 09:42 PM
I'm last
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 09:43 PM
you all come through the portal and see Xavavor standing there. after a few minutes the portal vanishes
Octavious 10-May-19 09:44 PM
Up the ladder @Ramza?
Ramza 10-May-19 09:45 PM
Yeah
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 09:46 PM
you climb the ladder and reach the top - the hatch/trapdoor doesn't seem locked. do you open it?
Octavious 10-May-19 09:46 PM
I check out the room as others are climbing

Dungeon Master 10-May-19 09:49 PM
the room is similar in size to the one you just left, but the stone is definitely different - the stone walls here are much lighter in colour. the ceiling is also made of thick, oak planks. the floor is clean - nothing in the room but the ladder and the torch
Octavious 10-May-19 09:49 PM
“I think we just portal’d into a basement.”
“That’s pretty cool”
I put out my lantern
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 09:50 PM
@Ramza do you open the trapdoor?
Ramza 10-May-19 09:51 PM
Open 'er up!
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 09:52 PM
As you open the trapdoor and finish climbing the ladder you find yourself in a well-lit large storeroom of some sort. There are many crates and barrels around you, and the walls seem to be made of polished white marble. There is a human man in robes in the far corner. As you climb into the room he turns and calmly asks “How was your trip?”.
Xavavor 10-May-19 09:52 PM
I really missed the sun.
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 09:53 PM
He nods and says "Do you have the delivery?"
Ramza 10-May-19 09:53 PM
I motion to @Gumbar to procure the chest.
Octavious 10-May-19 09:53 PM
@Gumbar
Hopefully it’s not covered in Durawin’s excrement.

Dungeon Master 10-May-19 09:58 PM
there is definitely a bit of poo on the chest
Octavious 10-May-19 09:58 PM
😂🤣
Kalochex 10-May-19 09:59 PM
god I'm glad the d100 didn't roll 69 😬
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 10:00 PM
Gumbar makes it to the top of the ladder, brings out the chest, and hands it to Ramza
Ramza 10-May-19 10:01 PM
I walk over and extend it to the man
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 10:02 PM
He takes it from you and asks "Any trouble down there? We haven't had a delivery in awhile"
Kalochex 10-May-19 10:04 PM
Bringing up the rear
Xavavor 10-May-19 10:06 PM
only lost one, so not too bad.
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 10:06 PM
"Lost?"
Ramza 10-May-19 10:07 PM
"Took us by surprise."
Xavavor 10-May-19 10:07 PM
speaking of...know any places around around to get a body brought back to life?
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 10:08 PM
"I imagine one could go to a temple for that sort of thing" (he smirks a bit as he says this) "Ressurection is not cheap, however."
"Did you clear the route? Or did you run?"
Xavavor 10-May-19 10:09 PM
cant say for sure its clear, but we killed everything we came across
Kalochex 10-May-19 10:09 PM
"Unsurprisingly the creatures down there have a decidedly goop-like quality about them"
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 10:11 PM
"Interesting. Well, be assured the Protectors appreciate your assistance. Both in transporting this [nods to the chest] and in clearing the sewers. This route is not used often, but life seems more pleasant when the path is clear. Please, take this for your troubles." He hands @Ramza a pouch.
"As our business is now concluded, I shall bid you farewell." He takes out a large iron key and walks to a small wooden door on the side of the room.
He unlocks the door, opens it, and gestures for you to go through.
Ramza 10-May-19 10:14 PM
I nod in thanks and move to go through the door before checking the contents of the pouch
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 10:15 PM
the pouch contains 18 cp, 25 sp, 12 gp, and 11 pp
Kalochex 10-May-19 10:15 PM
I avert my eyes from the person, but I look around the room as much as I can before leaving

the crates and barrels are all closed, but they seem well-made. the only other door (besides the one you are heading out of) is a large, ornate, carved oak door.
one small crate is open - the one the man was standing next to - you can just see what looks like the tops of glass vials
Kalochex 10-May-19 10:18 PM
wonders who this person is and what his new friends have been delivering, as well as who they---he---is working for
Ramza 10-May-19 10:20 PM
That's a good haul, considering we were told we'd be paid when we get back. Softens the loss of Durawin a bit lol
Bongo 10-May-19 10:23 PM
as if we could put a price on Durawin 😃
Dungeon Master 10-May-19 10:24 PM
apparently I can - 125.68 gp 😄
Ramza 10-May-19 10:24 PM
It's what he would want
Octavious 10-May-19 10:55 PM

Dungeon Master 11-May-19 08:46 AM
So.... As the party moves out into the alley those of you not from the city notice you are definitely not in the same district you were before - the large buildings around you are ornate constructed, though of different materials. The one you just left is polished stone, the one in front of you is well-carved wood. To your left you think you see a structure made of dirt, though even that building seems well-made. There are torches in the alleyway, keeping it well-lit even at this time of night. Those of you who are from the city please make an investigation or perception check, your choice.

Ugh
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 03:44 PM
so yep! none of you have a clue where you are 😄
Ramza 11-May-19 03:52 PM
I would say we should ask around if anyone is even out here this time of night, but I'm not sure that's smart given the clandestine nature of our job and not knowing where we are. Maybe just keep moving for now? We could find an inn and ask for directions
Bongo 11-May-19 03:53 PM
are we even in the same town?
Octavious 11-May-19 03:56 PM
Bar
Bars are always a goodchoice
Ramza 11-May-19 04:00 PM
That works too
Bongo 11-May-19 04:01 PM
Yes, lots of potential converts there
uh, err....knowledgeable locals
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 04:13 PM
@Ramza alley seems deserted
Ramza 11-May-19 04:17 PM
Let's move on out of it then
Bongo 11-May-19 04:23 PM
^
Bongo 11-May-19 04:49 PM
we head out of the alley and, hopefully, a "normal" street, where we look for a local tavern
Octavious 11-May-19 05:39 PM
😃
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 05:41 PM
You leave the alley and enter... another alley (though slightly larger). At this point you recognize a few buildings in the distance - you appear to be on the northern edge of The Temples.
Octavious 11-May-19 05:42 PM
All that work to get to a portal which blew us clear across town.
Ramza 11-May-19 05:44 PM
Do any of us from the city know now roundabouts where we are based off that landmark?
Ramza 11-May-19 05:47 PM
Yeah, just didn't want to assume/metagame
Octavious 11-May-19 05:49 PM
I pull out my handy tourist map. “I don’t know exactly where we are in here but based on the direction of the the towers of the citadel and some of the other land marks... it looks like we’re north of the temples area.”
Maybe one of the temples can help us with Durawin?
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 05:50 PM
to clarify, you are in The Temples, on the northern edge
Octavious 11-May-19 05:51 PM
“See this Street it’s just north of us... we’re IN the temples area.”
🤣
So now where?
Bongo 11-May-19 05:52 PM
are any temples open at this hour?
Octavious 11-May-19 05:52 PM
I dunno
@Ramza do you? @Gumbar do you?
Bongo 11-May-19 06:01 PM
I guess we could just go up to one and knock.
Octavious 11-May-19 06:07 PM
Now that sounds like an adventure. 😃
Shall we?
Bongo 11-May-19 06:12 PM
well, we should see if there's a sign out front (or statue), kinda give us an idea.
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 06:12 PM
As you wander around you notice most of the temples are indeed shut, though there are a few with open doors and torches burning outside. One has a statue of a skeletal arm holding balanced scales. Another small, nondescript structure simply has a black mask above the door.
Bongo 11-May-19 06:14 PM
hmm, I don't have a good idea about those.
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 06:15 PM
feel free to make a religion check if you want to know if the symbols ring a bell
Bongo 11-May-19 06:16 PM
when the sheet says I have profiency in a skill, what's that mean?
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 06:17 PM
it means you add your proficiency bonus to the skill check. D&D beyond has that in already for you. (normally you'd be -1 in religion, but you are +1 thanks to your proficiency bonus)
Bongo 11-May-19 06:17 PM
gotcha
/r d20 +1
Sidekick BOT 11-May-19 06:17 PM
@Bongo: d20 +1 = (18) +1 = 19
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 06:18 PM
you recognize the skeletal hand holding scales as the symbol of Kelemvor, the "Lord of the Dead"
Bongo 11-May-19 06:19 PM
I say skip this one. We want Durawin back whole, not just a skeleton of him
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 06:21 PM
with your roll you also know Kelemvor is also known as the Judge of the Damned, and his followers believe death is a natural part of life, and often consider anyone who has been brought back from death to be 'unnatural'
Bongo 11-May-19 06:25 PM
definitely skip this one. Moving on.
can I roll for the black mask place?
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 06:25 PM
that roll was for both
Bongo 11-May-19 06:26 PM
and the second place? What do I know about that?
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 06:27 PM
nothing - never seen that symbol before. all you know is it creeps you out a bit
Bongo 11-May-19 06:27 PM
And we're walking...we're walking....walking away
Durawin 11-May-19 06:41 PM
chicken!
Octavious 11-May-19 06:48 PM
I’m going to follow @Bongo and @Gumbar lead on this one.
Bongo 11-May-19 06:50 PM
@Durawin It's your body. Want to come back fleshless? We can arrange that
Octavious 11-May-19 06:54 PM
He’s not here
“He’s dead bongo, we have to either get him his last rites or find a way to bring our sassy and fragile bard back.”
“Besides it’s creepy when you talk to dead people randomly like that.”
😉
Ramza 11-May-19 07:27 PM
I'm not the religious sort so I defer to let the others lead for now.
Bongo 11-May-19 07:53 PM
Okay, we continue down the street looking for another temple
Gumbar 11-May-19 07:56 PM
im not leadin shit. the kids are here for the weekend
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 08:08 PM
@Bongo pretty much all the other temples you can see are closed. after all, it is ~2:30 AM
Bongo 11-May-19 08:09 PM
are they any I recognize as good?
make that Good
Scratch that. Let's find an inn and get some rooms.
Octavious 11-May-19 08:58 PM
With a dead body in tow?
It’s just going to get worse.
😈 let’s just leave him by a good temple for last rites?
Or knock on the doors anyway
Bongo 11-May-19 08:59 PM
Okay. With a note?
Octavious 11-May-19 08:59 PM
Notes... are traceable
Bongo 11-May-19 08:59 PM
He's in the bag of holding. He's not going to decay
Octavious 11-May-19 08:59 PM
Bag of holding doesn’t stop decay
Just make it rancid
Bongo 11-May-19 09:00 PM
okay. dump him. I need rest
Octavious 11-May-19 09:01 PM
Agreed.
@Ramza @Gumbar @Xavavor @Kalochex what say you? (edited)
Dungeon Master 11-May-19 09:06 PM
yeah, you need a bag of colding for him to not decay
(yes, bag of colding is an actual D&D thing)
he will totally start to stink up the bag soon
Kalochex 11-May-19 10:06 PM
I...did not know your friend. I am sorry for your loss, but my people believe in death as an opening to rebirth. Not undeath. For as much as my opinion is worth, I say we should prepare his body for burial in accordance with his customs.
Bongo 11-May-19 10:07 PM
Cover him in cheap whiskey and leave him in the gutter?
Kalochex 11-May-19 10:08 PM
I give a quizzical look, suddenly more confident that my tribes separation from the world was the right choice.
Bongo 11-May-19 10:08 PM
he was a bard, right? Seems fitting
Kalochex 11-May-19 10:09 PM
Is there a bardic college?
Bongo 11-May-19 10:09 PM
Hmmm.. I don't know. We could check
[Bongo searches through Durawin's pockets looking for an alumni card from a local bardic college]
Octavious 11-May-19 10:18 PM
None.
I already went through his things.
😈
He’s a cheap whisky kind of guy. Perfect choice.
Anyone got any?
Bongo 11-May-19 10:19 PM
[Bongo checks Durawin a third time]
Funeral pyre from cheap whiskey? Would he have wanted that?
Octavious 11-May-19 10:23 PM
He didn’t say anything about burning... just being a drunken bard... if we could find a way to leave his body in a house of ill repute he’d be proud of all of us.
Ramza 11-May-19 10:35 PM
There's plenty of good brothels I'm sure, it's a city
Durawin 11-May-19 10:38 PM
psst- I'd be prouder if you found a REAL seedy one.. or some bigwig's daughter's bed
Bongo 11-May-19 10:39 PM
Guys...I got a premonition from the Spirit of Durawin. Kinda confusing, but it was something about a bigwig's bed
👍🏼 1
Octavious 11-May-19 10:47 PM
Hrmmmm
Breaking in and leaving a body on a nobles daughter’s bed - sounds like jail time.
Brothel?
Not so much
Durawin 11-May-19 10:48 PM

Dungeon Master 16-May-19 05:27 PM
@Kalochex as you scout ahead a bit you do see a large open area surrounded by various temples down a street to the northwest
but yes, it is still the middle of the night - the sun won't rise for at least 3 hours or so
Kalochex 16-May-19 08:58 PM
I say we head that direction and quietly/peacefully bide our time until sunrise.
Octavious 17-May-19 01:09 AM
where we dumping the body?
Bongo 17-May-19 01:51 AM
Here?
Or Bordello?
Or Temple?
Durawin 17-May-19 01:58 AM
yes.
Dungeon Master 17-May-19 11:14 PM
so.... are you dumping the body?
Ramza 17-May-19 11:49 PM
We still have it? shakes leg
Dungeon Master 18-May-19 12:00 AM
if the party follow's Kalochex's advice you will enter the plaza and see several unlit temples around the edge, as well as one large one with torches burning and the doors open

you find a quiet alley and dump the poor bard's body behind some crates after pouring a bottle of cheap wine on him
and walk away
Ramza 18-May-19 06:42 PM
It only took us a week to do it lol
On to a pub!
