"State your name and your trouble in this dark hour of the night. Speak now or run."

Looks like he might be outside my range of 30ft from me, but I cast it as close to him as I can reach it. The sound is not a whisper, just a firm voice.

as you hear the new arrival say this you see four figures stop in the alley entrance

They are led by a tall tiefling in gleaming armor, with a snarling brown wolf at his side. Behind them you see a small figure in bright robes, who calmly draws a bow nearly as tall as she is while staring you down. And in the shadows of the tree you can just barely see a middle-aged gnome with a dark expression on his face.
The tiefling adjust his shield, draws a large dark iron warhammer, and says in a low voice "Belkor. You are quicker than I expected. [he nods in respect, then turns to Gumbar] Our quarrel is not with you, good sir. Kindly step aside so we may deal with the halfling."
You want to fight me, you have to go through my Gang First!

You pop out from behind the crate for a split second, take note of the four new arrivals, load your hand crossbow, and take a shot. As you loose your bolt you see the tiefling's eyes dart to your position, and he raises his shield. As he does this the shield briefly glows blue and your bolt changes direction as if magnetically drawn to the shield. Unfortunately for him, it hits with such force that the blot ricochets off the shield into his sword arm. He curses loudly and snarls "So it is to be the way of blood. Very well."

Xavavor does not immediately react - he was off to the side, reading his tome. As Octavious' bolt impacts the shield his head jolts up. He takes a moment to read the situation, then lifts his hand and fires an eldritch blast at the Tiefling

The druid steps out from behind the building, silently waves her hands, and.... nothing happens. @Kalochex you see her look confused, then frustrated, and she disappears back behind the building.
