you find it interesting that metal and wood are eaten by the acidic creature, yet stone is untouched. but that definitely seems to be the case

do i know why that might be the case? is it a special stone or something?

@Gumbar nope, it appears to be in the nature of the acid to eat metal and wood (and all organic matter, such as the people who usually chill in the oddly clean room) but it leaves stone untouched

I have a couple ideas.
Light or airflow.
Close the door.
Now that everyone is in I close the hood on my lantern and look for light through any cracks on the other side

I summon my trusty hand again and send it all the walls, checking to make sure they are solid
Something magical is around us

as you go to summon your hand you sense a sudden absence of magic within yourself and nothing happens
the feeling passes, however, and after a few moments of unease, you go to summon your Mage Hand again and this time it appears in front of you
you probe the walls with it and they all seem solid

Ramza, try showing your badge at...I dunno the walls or up...

Or, we can pull the chains and see what happens...there is something magical about this room. But that's all I can tell

I take the string and lean down where the gap between the door and the floor is. If there is another way in or out of here there is likely air flow either in or out of this room. I hold the piece of string down and see if it pulls toward the gap or away from it.

@Ramza for a brief moment, when the room was completely dark, you thought you saw something glowing underneath the rushes in the bottom left corner of the room

I start clearing the rushes away in an attempt to discover what could be below them

as you clear away the rushes you see a small indentation in the floor that is very lightly glowing blue

Press it?

nothing happens

Welp. Unless it reacts to my badge then that's about the extent of my usefulness here with magic involved

the indentation does seem pretty similar in shape to the badge you were given

as you press the badge into the indentation the south wall suddenly begins to glow
after a few moments a large blue portal appears
